Starting Over: A New Chapter for FunWithLex

For the past few years, my life revolved around one goal: building a home for professional comedians in Bangkok.
The Comedy Joint was born out of that dream — a dream fueled by long nights, wild shows, genuine laughter, and the belief that comedians could thrive in Thailand with the right space and support. I poured everything into it. I was there 7 days a week, on the mic, behind the scenes, and out on the street flyering like it was my religion, growing up a Jehovah's Witness helped.
But as anyone who's built something from the ground up will tell you… not everything goes the way you plan. I definitely didn't expect daily attacks from a fat man in a hawaiian shirt.
Recently, I stepped away from the club. It wasn’t easy, and it wasn’t what I imagined when I started this journey. There were challenges — personal, professional, and emotional — and for a long time I kept pushing through, thinking sheer willpower could carry it all.
Eventually, I realized I had to let go. It wasn't fun.
What Now?
Now, I’m rebuilding. Getting back to being myself and having fun.
I’m going back to the heart of what made me fall in love with comedy in the first place: transmuting suffering into laughter, the magic of spontaneous creation, and the joy of building something real with people who give a damn. I believe intention matters. In fact, maybe it's the only thing that matters in this imperfect world.
I’m no longer tied to one space. I’m doing pop-up shows, working with new collaborators, and launching long-form improv classes to give other performers the tools and stage time I once fought so hard to find. I'm bringing shows to places that want them — islands, rooftops, hidden bars, and anywhere that needs a little more laughter in the air.
And more importantly: I’m having fun.
What’s Next?
I’m still here in Thailand, still making comedy happen, and still obsessed with helping this scene grow. I'm excited that every Wednesday night I'll be hosting Bangkok’s newest and most unpredictable comedy experience at Live Lounge. I’m producing shows in Koh Lanta, Ao Nang, and Hua Hin. I'm still bringing in all my international headlining friends to do killer shows. I’m building new bridges, re-opening old ones, and keeping the door open for anyone who wants to build something real, not just ride coattails.
Leaving The Comedy Joint really did break my heart. I was very proud of what I was doing there and for a time I thought I wasn't getting a chance to finish my job. But having Arnie and now Eric move to Bangkok to work the club, I can say I did accomplish what I set out to do... create a place for professional comics to live and work here in Thailand.
Thanks for sticking with me.
